Summary

The three pocket pebbled leather K98 rifle pouch (Patronentaschen 98K) held thirty rounds of 7.92mm ammunition. Two pouches were carried by the infantry soldier making this one of the most widely produced pieces of field gear.

WWII German M1911 K98 Rifle Ammunition Pouch - Transitional Pattern Gallery

These are transitional pattern pouches that have no visible dates. These pouches do have some form of text or non-RBNr maker marks. This type of pattern features aluminum and/or steel fittings, rivets, an open style belt strap that wrapped under the pocket bottom and slipped over a post. RBNr numbers were used instead of manufacturer names starting in late 1942.

Transitional pouch with black pebbled leather and constructed of mostly aluminum fittings. Steel fittings were used for the reinforcement washers on the equipment loop and ammunition dividers. The pouch has all of the ammunition clip dividers. The interior of each pocket has light brown pebbled leather on the backside and black pebbled leather for the bottom liners. Inside of middle lid is an ink stamp in large numbers "316". The left outer lid has a handwritten name "Oppel". There is no date. (20070426)
